What Is Bipolar Disorder?

Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that causes a person’s mood to swing from being overly happy and energetic to being sad, irritable, and hopeless.

The highs are called manic episodes, and the lows are called depressive episodes.

The person may also have periods of time where they are not feeling like themselves at all. This is called a “mixed state.”

Living With Bipolar Disorder Is Like:

  • The first thing that people experience with this disorder is a manic episode.

They feel euphoric and excited, then they can also become agitated and irritable. When the manic episode ends, they will enter into a depressive episode.

  • It can be difficult to live with bipolar disorder because it can affect every area of life.

It can make it hard to stay focused on school or work and it can lead to problems with relationships.

  • Some people might feel like they have two completely different personalities.

They might have trouble managing their moods, and they might also experience anxiety and depression.

Some people might feel like they are on a never-ending rollercoaster ride, with extreme highs and lows that are hard to control.

Others might just feel out of control, or like they’re not in their own body anymore.

There are treatments available for bipolar disorder such as medication, therapy, lifestyle changes, and self-care, but it can be hard to get the right treatment and stick with it over time because of how severe the symptoms can be at different times in a person’s life.

Having Bipolar Disorder does not mean you are broken, it means you are strong and brave for battling your mind every single day.
